Who We Are?
Outreach Actions
(Mental Wellbeing of School Going and Out of School Children)
Understanding mental health is important for a happy life, especially during childhood and adolescence. In India, about 23.3% of school children are facing psychiatric disorders, making the country have the highest youth suicide rate globally. Even though 7% of 13–17 year olds have psychiatric disorders, many people still don’t know how serious mental health issues can be. Addressing mental health issues poses significant challenges due to various obstacles, with stigma being a major deterrent. The societal stigma surrounding mental illness often prevents timely assistance, leading to isolation and financial barriers further obstruct access to necessary support, therapy, and medications burdensome for many. Additionally, a shortage of mental health professionals worsens the situation to meet the growing demand for mental health services.
To address the mental health challenges of children, RIHR aims to make a positive impact on their well-being through its outreach action program for school-going and out-of-school children. Our primary goals:
- Raise awareness about mental health, breaking down the stigma often associated with discussing mental well-being.
- Recognizing the importance of offering genuine support, we are committed to providing free assistance from qualified mental health professionals to children in need.
Presently, we are focusing the school children from government and private schools. Under out-of-school children, would be approaching the children living in child care institutions weekly workshops.
Our vision is to empower children to become more resilient, emotionally aware, and mentally equipped to face life’s challenges. The centre also provides free counselling services for any child experiencing emotional issues and helpline services for children in distress. Through education, awareness, and accessible support, we aim to contribute to a better and healthier future for these young individuals.
